Hydroponics: Different Growing Mediums

Coconut coir - is among the chosen hydroponics growing mediums which is being used widely. It was the first growing medium that is fully organic and provide better performance in hydroponic system. This is naturally a waste product coming from the coconut industry. The user can greatly benefit from it because it has the ability to keep a high oxygen capacity compare to rockwool. It can also hold water much better than the rockwool that's why it became more popular.
Oasis cubes - these are lightweight cubes which are especially made for propagating plants. They are very much used when raising plants using seeds or from cuttings. Each contains neutral pH and keeps water properly. These can be immediately transferred to whatever type of hydroponic system.

Perlite - is among the leading hydroponic mediums all over the world. This can be either used solely or combined to other mediums. This usually works well with vermiculite and also a component of soil less mix. It has a strong wicking action this is why it is a good selection of wick-type hydroponic systems. This medium is comparatively cheap.
Vermiculite - is a medium which is more often used with Perlite because they are the best combination. Vermiculite can hold water and perlite cannot so it is a balance medium. It holds nutrients and water thoroughly might as well gives a lot of oxygen. The combination of perlite and vermiculite is a well known growing media for drip type hydroponic. Same as Perlite is also inexpensive.
